I built a design system to ensure designers and developers get maximum return on time while improving efficiency and consistency.

With business expanding and teams growing, there were increasing time-sensitive project deadlines at AM. I was tasked with finding a solution to maintain consistency in style and visual language to leverage our collective efforts.

After talking to stakeholders, designers, and engineers, the root problem was the lack of a systematic guide that teams could turn to while designing, realizing, and developing a product. We wanted to build a design system that could outlast the current project needs and become a single source of truth for all product areas.

Creating the Design System

The first step was to review all front-end design elements, identify inconsistencies, and discuss guidelines based on the company's principles with designers and PMs. After consolidating this crucial information, I got to work and organized them using Atomic Design principles.

The outcome was a collection of reusable components, guided by clear principles, that can be combined to create complex or straightforward experiences as fast as needed.

Impact

The creation of a design system played a crucial role in helping designers and developers work rapidly while maintaining consistency as well as improving the product’s interface with confidence.
